Evidence-Based Therapies

Evidence-Based Therapies

At R&R Health, we take an integrated, science-backed approach to healing. Our evidence-based therapies are grounded in clinical research and proven to support lasting recovery from substance use, mental health issues, and co-occurring disorders. Each modality is delivered by experienced professionals in a safe, supportive environment—helping clients gain insight, build coping tools, and make meaningful progress toward long-term wellness.

We believe in treating the whole person—not just the symptoms. Our experiential and holistic therapies are designed to support emotional healing, nervous system regulation, and personal growth in ways that go beyond traditional talk therapy. From surf sessions to sound healing, each offering provides a powerful, embodied experience that complements our clinical work and helps clients connect more deeply with themselves and the world around them.

Trauma-Focused Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT is a widely respected therapeutic approach that helps clients identify and shift unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors. By learning to challenge distorted thinking and replace it with more balanced perspectives, clients can reduce symptoms of anxiety, depression, and relapse-related thinking. At R&R, CBT is personalized to your experiences and goals, empowering you to take clear, practical steps toward change—both during treatment and in life beyond it.
DBT is especially effective for those navigating intense emotions, past trauma, or self-destructive behaviors. It blends cognitive strategies with mindfulness practices to teach four key skills: emotional regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and mindfulness. Our DBT sessions offer a structured, compassionate space to practice these tools—helping clients move from emotional overwhelm to clarity and stability.
MI is a collaborative therapy that helps clients explore ambivalence about recovery and strengthen their own motivation for change. Rather than forcing decisions, MI meets clients where they are—using empathetic dialogue to build self-trust and autonomy. It’s particularly useful in early recovery stages or during moments of doubt, offering space for honest reflection and renewed commitment.
One-on-one therapy is a foundational part of care at R&R Health. In these private sessions, clients work closely with a licensed therapist to explore personal challenges, uncover root causes, and set meaningful goals. Whether you’re processing trauma, managing mental health symptoms, or building new coping strategies, individual therapy offers a safe, confidential space for deep healing and personalized support.
Group therapy is a cornerstone of care at R&R. Guided by licensed clinicians, these sessions offer a supportive space where clients can share openly, receive feedback, and build connection. Group work reduces isolation, normalizes the challenges of recovery, and allows clients to learn from each other’s experiences. Whether processing trauma or practicing communication, our groups foster a sense of belonging that’s vital to healing.
Healing doesn’t happen in a vacuum—it affects (and is affected by) the people closest to us. Our family-integrated therapy sessions help clients and their loved ones rebuild trust, improve communication, and understand the dynamics of recovery. Whether you’re repairing fractured relationships or learning new ways to support each other, this therapy invites deeper connection and lasting change across the whole system.
Hypnotherapy uses guided relaxation and focused attention to access the subconscious mind. It is a safe, evidence-based method for identifying and reframing deeply rooted beliefs and behavioral patterns. Sessions at R&R are conducted by licensed professionals with advanced hypnotherapy training. Clients may work on issues such as trauma, anxiety, or substance cravings in a deeply relaxed, receptive state—often experiencing insight or emotional breakthroughs that enhance their recovery journey and support long-term change. R&R often blends reiki and hypnotherapy into one 90 min session with a specialized facilitator.

Experiential & Holistic Therapies

Surf Therapy
Surf therapy combines the rhythm of the ocean with therapeutic guidance to create a unique healing environment. Clients learn to surf while building self-confidence, regulating emotions, and developing trust in themselves and others. The physical activity promotes endorphin release, while the ocean’s natural setting fosters mindfulness and calm. Surf sessions are facilitated by trained surf instructors and supported by clinical staff, creating a safe space for emotional growth and physical challenge. For many, being in the water becomes a way to reconnect with themselves in a powerful and freeing way. Our clinical director is a renowned surf-therapy specialist, bringing an extra special touch to R&R’s experiential therapy offerings.
Yoga and mindful movement sessions at R&R are trauma-informed and accessible to all skill levels. Each class integrates breathwork, gentle movement, and meditation to help clients reconnect with their bodies and find internal balance. Movement is used as a tool for emotional processing, grounding, and nervous system regulation. Whether stretching through held tension or finding stillness in meditation, clients are encouraged to go at their own pace and experience the therapeutic benefits of being present in their own skin. R&R has recently expanded to include an entire studio space designed specifically for these classes.
Sound healing is a powerful, non-verbal therapy that uses resonant instruments like crystal bowls, gongs, and tuning forks to shift energetic blockages and support emotional processing. Clients lie comfortably in a group or individual setting while immersed in a wave of healing frequencies. This therapy is particularly helpful for those struggling with anxiety, trauma, or racing thoughts. Sessions often result in a deep sense of calm, clarity, and mental spaciousness. It’s a gentle way to quiet the mind and nurture the nervous system. Clients (and clinicians) all love it!
Reiki is a form of energy healing that promotes emotional and physical balance. During a session, the practitioner uses gentle, intentional touch—or a hands-off technique—to help clear energetic imbalances and facilitate the body’s natural healing response. Clients often report feeling warmth, tingling, or deep relaxation during sessions. Reiki supports emotional release, reduces stress, and helps restore a sense of inner harmony, making it an excellent complement to clinical therapies for those seeking a more holistic approach to healing.
Music therapy uses sound as a bridge for emotional expression, connection, and healing. Whether through playing instruments, writing lyrics, vocal work, or guided listening, clients use music to access and process feelings that may be difficult to express with words. This approach fosters self-expression, emotional regulation, and a sense of connection—both with self and others. Music therapy is especially powerful for clients navigating depression, grief, or social challenges. No musical background is necessary, just a willingness to explore.
Vocational coaching at R&R is tailored to help each client explore purpose and direction beyond treatment. Our coaches provide support with job readiness, resume writing, interview practice, and career path exploration. Coaching is values-driven and strengths-based, empowering clients to identify opportunities that align with their recovery goals and personal fulfillment. Whether transitioning back into the workforce or exploring education, clients receive practical tools and encouragement to pursue a meaningful, independent future.
Each client is paired with a dedicated case manager who serves as a consistent support and advocate throughout the recovery journey. Case management ensures coordination across clinical care, legal needs, housing, employment, and more. These one-on-one relationships provide structured guidance, accountability, and encouragement. Clients meet regularly with their case manager to set goals, navigate challenges, and access resources. This level of personalized care helps remove barriers to success and ensures no one falls through the cracks.
